ACES (ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES) & THE POWER OF RESILIENCE

This training introduces Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and makes the connection between ACEs and later emotional and physical health outcomes. It explores the impact of trauma on development and explains the powerful antidote to ACEs —resilience. This training is an introduction to ACEs and resilience for those who are beginning their journey along the trauma-informed spectrum. It includes strategies for increasing resilience, provides an introduction to the principles of trauma-informed care, and explores how to apply these in an organizational setting.

CREATING EFFECTIVE CHANGE AND ORGANIZATIONAL BUY-IN

Clarify the vision and communicate it effectively. The role of leadership in change management requires that you help people buy into your vision for the organization. This type of communication needs to occur consistently, no matter if it’s the mundane, day-to-day issues or more serious change programs. This training will look at real organization challenges and guide interactive solutions.

HEALING CENTERED CLASSROOMS

This training will include an exploration of Adverse Childhood Experiences, how trauma can present in the classroom, self-regulation methods, and resources to support our students in the classroom setting.

HEALING THE HELPER

This training will further explore the cost of caring on support staff, teachers, caregivers and all others working with children and adults coming from difficult places - especially in the wake of COVID-19. We will provide an overview of burnout, secondary stress response, compassion fatigue and the impact on function. The training will review practical self-care strategies and provide self-care planning activities. There will also be opportunities during this training to learn and practice regulation strategies. Participation is encouraged to make this training interactive and meaningful! .

THE IMPORTANCE OF PRONOUNS

Take the time to discuss pronouns and the practice of respectful corrections. This training is an important piece of respectful communication that all can benefit from.

THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE

This training focuses on helping leaders and others understand organizational identity, culture, and trauma. Educating leaders in trauma and its impact on organizational identity is a key step toward healing and promoting healthier organizational cultures. Looking at the importance of creating top-down, bottom-up communication systems to ensure leadership decisions are guided by client and staff experience and needs. We will look at different ways to create these systems that create a sustained positive culture that positions you as an employer and provider of choice.

SAFE ZONE

This training will help you learn more about LGBTQ+ terminology, becoming an ally, mapping out gender vs. sexuality, steps of the coming out model, respectful communication, local LGBTQ+ resources, and much more.

SELF-REGULATION: AN INDIVIDUALIZED EXPERIENCE

Just as the effect of experiences and events impact individuals differently (e.g. an event that one person has a trauma-response to, another may not be traumatized by the same event), so do stressors. Participants will learn why “Self-Control is NOT the same thing as Self-Regulation” and be introduced to a powerful strategy (re-framing) and an engaging process (with resources) that invites teachers and students to become “Stress Detectives.” Based on the work of Dr. Stuart Shanker.

TRAUMA INFORMED CARE: MORE THAN A BUZZ WORD

As a society and a profession, we hear the phrase “Trauma Informed” everywhere but what does it really mean to be Trauma Informed? This training will explore the continuum of becoming trauma informed to trauma responsive and ultimately healing centered. Changing language from what is wrong with this person to what happened to this person and how to build on the strengths of the individual.

YOUTH WITH PROBLEMATIC SEXUAL BEHAVIORS: FROM STIGMA TO SUPPORT

Decades of research indicates that treating and responding to children that engage in Problematic Sexual Behaviors in ways systems respond to adult offenders is not effective. Children need comprehensive treatment and response to heal and promote behavioral change. This training will provide an overview of problematic sexual behaviors in youth and children, and includes basic information on the continuum of childhood sexual behaviors, criteria for problematic sexual behaviors, the role of language and science in informing the response, and next steps for communities.

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)

LivingWorks ASIST is a two-day in-person workshop featuring powerful audiovisuals, discussions, and simulations. You’ll learn how to recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide, and how to provide a skilled intervention and develop a safety plan with the person to connect them to further support. You will also consider how personal and community attitudes about suicide affect someone’s openness to seek help and your ability to provide it. This workshop will increase your willingness, confidence, and capacity to provide suicide first aid.

RESPONDING TO CLIENTS IN CRISIS / TRAUMA RESPONSE/DE-ESCALATION

This training will give you a foundational understanding of the importance of reaching our "learning brain" through regulation. Throughout the training, you will be equipped with co-regulation tools that can be applied in any setting when navigating someone in crisis.

IN HER SHOES

In Her Shoes/In Their Shoes is an experiential learning activity. Based on the experiences of real survivors, participants engage in a simulation in which they walk in the shoes of the various characters experiencing abusive and controlling relationships. Groups or individuals are given a card describing the background and current situation of a character. Different stations throughout the room contain color-coordinated plot cards that align with each character. As groups are led to different stations, they read through scenarios their character faces with their partner and various systems, and make choices about their character’s next steps. The most critical part of the simulation, however, is the debrief. Discussion helps participants answer lingering questions, give the facilitator the opportunity to dispel persistent myths and misunderstandings, and helps participants engage in the way they can make change individually and locally.

DV 101

This training will provide an overview of the Domestic Violence cycle of abuse, dynamics, risks, statistics, signs to look out for, effects on adult & child survivors, how to help and services provided to assist survivors.

CULTURAL RESPONSIVENESS

This training will help participants consider interpersonal and structural aspects of diversity, privilege, and oppression. Participants will have the chance to examine implicit biases both in themselves and in their broader social contexts, and will learn how to effectively challenge these biases. Finally, participants will leave with a more thorough understanding of microaggressions and how to respond effectively in the moment.

EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP STRATEGIES

Supervising a team can feel like a thankless and overwhelming task at times. If the methods you’ve developed for managing your team are not delivering the results you desire, it may be time to try something new. This training explores the works of Brene Brown, the Conscious Leadership Group, and other relational experts to redefine the parameters of effective leadership. You’ll learn the importance of self-awareness in avoiding drama and develop strategies for leadership that build upon strengths, transparency, creativity and shared accountability.

With discussions ranging from combatting misinformation, explicit content protection, online shopping safety, social media content, and personal information security, this series provides the information and skills to support mental health and safety in the digital age.

SAFE SURFING

Raising children in the age of the internet is an increasingly vital but difficult task. Just when we think we’ve wrapped our minds around what our kids are seeing online, a new scary trend emerges. Are you unsure if you’re fully informed about what content is targeting your youth? Want to speak with a professional about strategies for maintaining supervision and structure at developmentally-appropriate stages? This introductory course will get those conversations started!

ONLINE DETECTIVE WORK

Misinformation is nothing new, but the internet and AI have multiplied the tools we have to spread it and make it convincing. This training, which can be adapted for any age, will teach you and your kids how misinformation is spread, the pitfalls of relying on AI, and what strategies you can use to navigate information online safely and accurately.

FREEZE OUT HATE

Hate groups don’t need to recruit members through secret back-room meetings anymore—not when your teenager is just a few social media posts away. In this training, we discuss what strategies hate groups use to target teenagers, how to recognize common hate groups and hate speech, and what strategies you and your youth can use to prevent radicalization.

ONLINE SECURITY FOR YOUTH

Your teenager might understand not to share their password with anyone, but do they know what an IP address is? Data mining? Algorithms? Romance scams? Microtransactions? Give your youth the skills they need to protect more than just their name and address online. This training reviews steps you or your youth can take to protect their privacy and their wallet online.

YOUR ALGORITHM DIET PROGRAM

We’ve all seen the headlines. Social media is bad for our self-esteem. Doomscrolling is bad for our mental health. AI is rotting our brains. But what can you actually do about it? Turns out, a lot! Come to this training, and we’ll address specific concrete steps you can take to transform your internet experience and protect your mental health—or how you can do so for your children.

NORMAL, SAFE, FUNCTIONAL, WORTHY (NSFW)

Talking about the birds and the bees is one of the most uncomfortable discussions we have with our youth. Sometimes it feels easier to just pretend we don’t know it’s happening—especially when it comes to what content our teens might be viewing online—but we know being informed keeps our youth safe. This training will go over the ways that teens are exposed to adult online content, when adult content becomes harmful, and how you can have productive conversations with your youth about staying safe.

UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Influencers are the new celebrities. Instead of gracing the movie screen, they light up our phone screens, so we see them all day every day. Fame has never been more attainable! In fact, 57% of youth report wanting to be an influencer when they grow up. But is that a realistic goal for them? And in the meantime, what does all this time on social media following influencers do to their brains? In this training, we discuss the impact of influencer culture on our youths’ well-being, how influencers make income, and what specific types of content creators pose a particular kind of risk for kids’ and teens’ development.
